Ingredients

☐ 2 cans (16.3 ounces each) refrigerated crescent roll dough

☐ 1 pound bacon, cooked until crispy and chopped into bite-sized pieces

☐ 2 cups freshly shredded sharp cheddar cheese, divided

☐ 6 large eggs

☐ 1 cup heavy whipping cream

☐ ½ teaspoon salt, or to taste

☐ ¼ teaspoon black pepper, or to taste

☐ 2–3 tablespoons chopped green onions, for garnish (optional)

Ingredients

Step 1: Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray or butter.

Step 2: Prepare the Crescent Roll Dough
Cut one can of refrigerated crescent roll dough into 1-inch pieces and spread them evenly over the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Unroll the second can of crescent roll dough and cut it into long strips. Set aside for the top of the casserole.

Step 3: Add the Bacon
Sprinkle the chopped crispy bacon evenly over the crescent roll pieces.

Step 4: Mix the Egg Custard
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy whipping cream, salt, and black pepper until smooth and well combined.

Step 5: Assemble the Casserole
Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bacon and crescent roll pieces. Sprinkle 1 cup of the shredded cheddar cheese over the top.

Arrange the reserved crescent roll strips in a lattice pattern over the cheese. Sprinkle with the remaining 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese, then top with the remaining bacon.

Step 6: Assemble the Sandwich

Place the second slice of toast on top and gently press the sandwich together so everything stays in place.

RECIPE TIPS

  • For the best flavor and texture, assemble the casserole the night before and refrigerate it overnight. As it rests, the crescent dough absorbs the rich egg mixture, creating a fluffy, cheesy breakfast casserole that's perfect for holidays, weekend brunches, or busy mornings when you want breakfast ready with minimal effort.

🥶 STORAGE

Store leftover casserole tightly covered in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. For the best flavor and texture, reheat only the portion you plan to serve.

🔥 Reheating Instructions

Microwave

Place an individual serving on a microwave-safe plate and heat for 45–90 seconds, or until hot.

Oven

Cover the casserole with aluminum foil and bake at 325°F for 15–20 minutes, or until heated through.

  • Can I make this casserole the night before?

Yes! This recipe is designed to be assembled the night before and refrigerated overnight. It makes holiday mornings and busy weekdays much easier.

  • Can I bake it the same day?

Absolutely. While the overnight version has the best texture, you can bake it immediately after assembling if you're short on time.

  • Can I use croissants instead of crescent roll dough?

Yes! About 6–8 buttery croissants, cut into bite-sized pieces, make a delicious substitute and create an even richer casserole.

  • Can I use a different cheese?

Definitely! Colby Jack, Monterey Jack, Swiss, mozzarella, or Pepper Jack all work well.

  • Can I add vegetables?

Yes. Sautéed onions, bell peppers, mushrooms, or spinach are all delicious additions. Be sure to cook vegetables first to remove excess moisture.

  • How do I know when the casserole is done?

The top should be golden brown, and the center should be fully set. A knife inserted near the center should come out clean with no liquid egg remaining.

Step 6: Refrigerate (Recommended)
Cover the baking dish tightly with plastic wrap or aluminum foil and refrigerate overnight, or for at least 8 hours, for the best flavor and texture.

If you're short on time, you can bake it right away, but the overnight rest allows the crescent dough to soak up the egg mixture, creating a richer, fluffier casserole.

Step 7: Bake
Remove the casserole from the refrigerator 15–20 minutes before baking while the oven preheats.

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and continue baking for 15–20 minutes, or until the casserole is golden brown and the center is fully set.
