Directions

  • Prepare the Bread

Preheat oven to 350°F.

Lightly grease a 9 × 13-inch baking dish.

Cut the day-old bread into about 1-inch cubes and spread them evenly in the prepared baking dish.

Spoon the apple pie filling over the bread, distributing the apples throughout.

  • Make the Custard

In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, granulated sugar, brown sugar, melted butter, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.

Slowly pour the custard mixture evenly over the bread and apples.

Gently press the bread down into the custard so all the pieces are moistened.

Let the mixture sit for 10–15 minutes to allow the bread to soak up the custard.

  • Bake the Bread Pudding

Bake uncovered at 350°F for 40–45 minutes, or until the center is set and the top is lightly golden.

Remove from the oven and let rest for 10 minutes before serving.

  • Serve

Spoon the apple bread pudding into bowls while still warm.

Top each serving with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Add a drizzle of caramel sauce if desired. 🍎🍨

RECIPE TIPS

  • For the best texture, use day-old or slightly stale bread so it can soak up the custard without becoming mushy. If your bread is fresh, spread the cubes on a baking sheet and bake at 300°F for 8–10 minutes to dry them slightly before assembling the bread pudding. 🍎🍂

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can I use fresh bread for apple bread pudding?

Yes. If your bread is fresh, cut it into cubes and bake at 300°F for 8–10 minutes to dry it slightly before assembling the bread pudding.

  • What type of bread works best for bread pudding?

French bread, brioche, challah, or a sturdy white bread all work well. Day-old bread is best because it absorbs the custard without becoming overly mushy.

  • Can I make apple bread pudding ahead of time?

Yes. Assemble the bread pudding, cover it, and refrigerate for up to 12 hours before baking. Let the baking dish sit at room temperature while the oven preheats.

  • How do I store leftover apple bread pudding?

Cover and refrigerate leftovers for up to 3–4 days. Reheat individual servings in the microwave or warm them in the oven before serving.

  • Can I add caramel sauce to apple bread pudding?

Absolutely! Warm Caramel Sauce is delicious drizzled over the bread pudding, especially when it's served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. 🍎🍨
