Directions

  • Soften the Butter
Let the butter sit at room temperature until soft enough to mix easily, but not melted.

  • Prepare the Herbs
Remove the thyme leaves from the stems. Finely chop the rosemary and thyme so the herbs distribute evenly throughout the butter.

  • Prepare the Garlic
Finely mince or grate the garlic cloves.

  • Mix the Herb Butter
Add the softened butter, rosemary, thyme, garlic, and black pepper to a medium bowl. Mix until the herbs, garlic, and pepper are evenly distributed throughout the butter.

  • Shape the Butter
Spoon the herb butter onto a sheet of parchment paper or plastic wrap. Shape it into a log, then roll it tightly and twist the ends to seal.

  • Chill Until Firm
Refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or until firm enough to slice.

  • Serve
Slice or soften as needed and serve on warm bread, steak, chicken, potatoes, corn, or vegetables.

RECIPE TIPS

  • For the best flavor and texture, chop the fresh rosemary and thyme very finely so the herbs distribute evenly throughout the butter. Let the finished herb butter chill for at least an hour before slicing, and for even deeper flavor, make it a day ahead so the rosemary, garlic, and thyme have time to infuse the butter.
