Ingredients

Honey Garlic Shrimp

☐ 2 pounds large shrimp, peeled and deveined

☐ 6 tablespoons soy sauce

☐ 4 tablespoons honey

☐ 2 tablespoons minced garlic

☐ 1 tablespoon fresh grated ginger

☐ 2 tablespoons sesame oil

☐ 2 tablespoons olive oil

☐ Salt and black pepper, to taste

☐ Chopped green onions, for garnish

1. Marinate the Shrimp

In a large bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, honey, minced garlic, grated ginger, sesame oil, olive oil, salt, and black pepper. Add the shrimp and toss until evenly coated. Cover and refrigerate for 15 to 20 minutes.

2. Cook the Shrimp

Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the marinated shrimp in a single layer and cook for 2 to 3 minutes per side, or until the shrimp are pink and cooked through. Transfer the shrimp to a plate and set aside.

3. Cook the Vegetables

Using the same skillet, add a small drizzle of oil if needed. Add the broccoli, bell peppers, and zucchini. Stir-fry for 4 to 5 minutes, stirring frequently, until the vegetables are crisp-tender.

4. Add the Imitation Crab

Add the bite-sized pieces of imitation crab to the skillet and gently stir for about 1 to 2 minutes, just until heated through. Be careful not to break the crab apart too much.

5. Make the Sauce

In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, and cornstarch, if using, until smooth. Pour the sauce into the skillet and stir to coat the vegetables and crab evenly.

6. Finish the Stir-Fry

Return the cooked shrimp to the skillet and gently toss everything together. Cook for 2 to 3 more minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly and coat every bite.

7. Serve

Serve the Honey Garlic Shrimp and Imitation Crab Stir-Fry over hot cooked rice. Garnish with chopped green onions and enjoy immediately.

RECIPE TIPS

  • Don't overcook the shrimp. Shrimp cook quickly and only need about 2 to 3 minutes per side. As soon as they turn pink and opaque, remove them from the pan to keep them juicy and tender. Have everything prepped before you start cooking. Stir-fries come together fast, so having all of your ingredients chopped, measured, and ready makes cooking much easier.

🥶 STORAGE

Allow any leftovers to cool completely before transferring them to an airtight container. Store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. If serving over rice, store the rice separately whenever possible to help maintain the best texture. For longer storage, freeze the stir-fry in a freezer-safe container for up to 2 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before reheating.

🔥 Reheating Instructions

  • Microwave (Best for Individual Servings):
Place a serving in a microwave-safe bowl and cover loosely. Heat on 50% power for 1 to 2 minutes, stirring halfway through, until the shrimp and vegetables are heated through. Add a splash of water or chicken broth if the sauce has thickened too much.

  • Stovetop (Best Method):
Heat the stir-fry in a large skillet over medium heat for 4 to 6 minutes, stirring occasionally, until warmed through. If needed, add a tablespoon or two of water or chicken broth to loosen the sauce.

  • Avoid Overheating:
Since shrimp cook very quickly, only reheat until everything is hot. Overcooking can make the shrimp tough and rubbery.

  • Can I use frozen shrimp?

  • Yes! Just thaw the shrimp completely and pat them dry with paper towels before marinating. This helps them cook evenly and prevents excess water from thinning the sauce.

  • Can I substitute real crab for imitation crab?

  • Absolutely. Lump crab meat or claw meat both work well. Add it near the end of cooking and stir gently to keep the crab pieces intact.

  • What vegetables can I add?

  • This stir-fry is very versatile. Snow peas, carrots, mushrooms, snap peas, baby corn, onions, water chestnuts, and bok choy are all excellent additions.

  • Can I make this recipe ahead of time?

  • Yes. You can marinate the shrimp and chop all of the vegetables up to 24 hours in advance. Store everything separately in the refrigerator until you're ready to cook.

  • Is this recipe spicy?

  • No. This recipe is sweet and savory with garlic and ginger flavors. If you'd like some heat, add red pepper flakes, sriracha, or sliced fresh jalapeños to taste.

  • Can I make the sauce thicker?

  • Yes. If you'd like a thicker, stickier sauce, whisk 2 tablespoons of cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of cold water and stir it into the skillet during the last few minutes of cooking.

  • What should I serve with Honey Garlic Shrimp and Imitation

    Crab Stir-Fry?

  • Steamed white rice, jasmine rice, brown rice, fried rice, lo mein noodles, or even cauliflower rice all pair wonderfully with this dish.

  • Can I freeze leftovers?

  • Yes. Freeze the cooled stir-fry in an airtight freezer-safe container for up to 2 months. For the best texture, freeze the stir-fry separately from the rice. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before reheating.
