Ingredients

☐ 2 cans (14.6 ounces each) Hunt's Fire Roasted Crushed Tomatoes

☐ 2 garlic cloves, minced

☐ 1 teaspoon dried oregano

☐ 1 teaspoon dried basil

☐ ½ teaspoon onion powder

☐ ½ teaspoon sugar

☐ 1 teaspoon salt

☐ ½ teaspoon black pepper

1. Blend the Ingredients

Add the fire-roasted crushed tomatoes, minced garlic, oregano, basil, onion powder, sugar, salt, and black pepper to a blender. Blend until the sauce is smooth and well combined.

2. Cook the Sauce

Pour the blended sauce into a medium saucepan and place it over medium-high heat. Bring the sauce to a gentle boil, stirring frequently to prevent sticking.

3. Simmer

Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. This allows the herbs to bloom and the sauce to thicken slightly while the flavors meld together.

4. Cool or Use

Remove the sauce from the heat. Use immediately on homemade pizza, or allow it to cool completely before storing in the refrigerator or freezer.

RECIPE TIPS

  • For an even richer pizza sauce, let it simmer for 20 to 30 minutes instead of 10. The longer cooking time concentrates the tomato flavor and creates a thicker, pizzeria-style sauce that's perfect for homemade pizzas.

🥶 STORAGE

Allow the pizza sauce to cool completely before transferring it to an airtight container or mason jar. Store in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

For longer storage, freeze the sauce in freezer-safe containers or freezer bags for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before reheating or using on your favorite homemade pizza.

🔥 Reheating Instructions

  • Stovetop: Pour the desired amount of pizza sauce into a small saucepan and heat over medium-low heat for 3 to 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until warmed through.

  • Microwave: Place the sauce in a microwave-safe bowl and cover loosely to prevent splatters. Heat on High for 30-second intervals, stirring after each, until hot.

  • From Frozen: Thaw the sauce overnight in the refrigerator. Reheat on the stovetop over medium-low heat for 5 to 7 minutes, stirring occasionally until heated through.

  • Can I use regular crushed tomatoes instead of fire-roasted tomatoes?

  • Do I have to cook the sauce?

  • Yes. Simmering the sauce helps blend the flavors and thickens it slightly, creating a richer pizza sauce.

  • Can I make this sauce ahead of time?

  • Absolutely! In fact, the flavor gets even better after a day in the refrigerator, making it a great make-ahead recipe.

  • Can I freeze pizza sauce?

  • Yes. Let the sauce cool completely, then freeze it in airtight containers or freezer bags for up to 3 months.

  • What can I use this pizza sauce for?

  • This sauce is perfect for homemade pizza, calzones, stromboli, pizza rolls, breadsticks, mozzarella sticks, garlic bread, and even as a dipping sauce.

  • Can I make the sauce thicker?

  • Yes. Simply simmer it for an additional 10 to 20 minutes until it reaches your desired consistency.

  • Can I add more seasonings?

  • Of course! Feel free to add crushed red pepper flakes, Italian seasoning, Parmesan cheese, fresh basil, or a pinch of fennel for even more flavor.

  • How much pizza does this recipe make?

  • This recipe makes about 3 cups of sauce, enough for approximately 3 to 4 medium homemade pizzas, depending on how much sauce you like.
