Homemade Ranch Seasoning

Homemade Ranch Seasoning Mix

Homemade Ranch Seasoning is easy to make with simple pantry spices and is great to keep on hand whenever a recipe calls for a packet of dry ranch seasoning. Use it to make creamy ranch dip or dressing, or add it to chicken, potatoes, casseroles, and other recipes for that familiar ranch flavor. Making your own also means you can mix up a batch ahead of time and skip buying individual packets at the store.

Ingredients

Combine the Seasonings
Add the dry buttermilk powder, dried parsley, dill weed, dried minced onion, dried minced garlic, kosher salt, black pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder to a spice grinder or food processor.

Blend the Ranch Mix
Pulse several times until the seasonings are broken down and the mixture has a fairly even consistency. You don't need to turn it into a fine powder; a little texture is perfectly fine.

Store the Seasoning
Transfer the ranch seasoning to an airtight jar or container. Keep it tightly covered in a cool, dry place.

Use in Recipes
Stir the seasoning before measuring. Use 2 tablespoons of Homemade Ranch Seasoning in place of one packet of dry ranch seasoning in your favorite recipes.

  • Make Homemade Ranch Dressing: Whisk 2 tablespoons Homemade Ranch Seasoning with 1 cup mayonnaise and ½ cup milk until smooth and creamy. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving to give the herbs time to soften and the flavors time to blend. For a thinner dressing, add a little more milk until it reaches the consistency you like.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can I use this ranch seasoning for more than dressing?

Yes! Sprinkle it over potatoes or vegetables, use it to season chicken, mix it into casseroles, or add it to creamy sauces and dips.

  • Why is there dry buttermilk powder in homemade ranch seasoning?

Dry buttermilk powder adds the tangy, slightly creamy flavor associated with classic ranch seasoning while keeping the mixture dry and easy to store.

  • Can I adjust the herbs in the ranch seasoning?

Absolutely. If you love dill, add a little extra, or reduce it for a milder ranch flavor. You can also adjust the garlic, onion, salt, and pepper to suit your taste.

  • What can I serve with homemade ranch?

Homemade ranch is great with fresh vegetables, chicken, fries, potato wedges, salads, and plenty of appetizers.

  • Can I make a larger batch of homemade ranch seasoning?

Yes. Double or triple the ingredients while keeping the same proportions, then store the extra seasoning in an airtight container so it's ready whenever a recipe calls for ranch seasoning.
